I just love the theme song to this series. Due to that, I decided to explore this album, as I noticed they started playing some other music at the opening of some episodes, as the seasons progressed.First, I really liked the quality of the original theme song. I also really enjoyed both the extended remixes of that song. They're different enough, and go at the content with some great quotes from the series and a somewhat different sound that they provide nice variety. For me, the rest of the content was a mixed bag. I probably liked about half the other tracks pretty well. I especially liked "Waiting" for some reason. I listen mostly in the car, so if I get to a track I don't like, I just skip it with a push of a steering wheel button.I sometimes like using the repeat, and just listening to a rendition of the theme song (or remix) through several loops.I SUSPECT that why so many people end up liking the theme songs to such series so much is a matter of context. They end up with a certain emotional context and expectation from watching the show, and they then associate that (and the powerful visual imagery with the opening sequence) with the music, which, IMO, enhances the experience. For example, I love the natural aspects of the imagery by far the most. The black bird (raven?), traditional symbol of death in some cultures, hopping along the grave stone. The beautiful cloudscape shots. The lone tree at the end, where the graphic for the casket underground is added.I could be wrong, but I strongly suspect that without such context, themes like this, like the theme from "House of Cards", etc. might not be anywhere as popular or enjoyable. For example -- I didn't watch Twin Peaks. I checked out the (raved about) theme music on Youtube. It didn't do anything for me.I plan to test this theory by watching Twin Peaks at some point, and seeing if the theme music grows on me. I'll report back my results, assuming I remember, as I think aspects of the common human experience like this are very interesting. (Yes, I'm weird. As long as I'm not hurting anyone, in the US, I have that right. LOL)
