I have been playing guitar for only a year and a half, but I can see already this book is easily one of the best I have purchased (just bought the book). Other books I have purchased on Amazon have been good, for example the John Ganapes and Jim Ferguson books on blues, so I have some idea now what to look for and how to accurately review a book on guitar...This book by Kolb gives clear examples of how to broaden a pentatonic scale by adding certain notes (not just blue notes) as well as how to use modes among other things (I cannot explain as easily as he does). He gives many examples of a particular point and writes so clearly and mentions so many songs from great guitarists to reinforce each point that he is easy to comprehend. To give some idea where I am coming from, my book reading on guitar, I have Ted Greene chord chemistry as well as Randy Vincent three-note voicings and beyond. I also have a bunch of the Hal Leonard stylistic supplements to guitar method such as blues, rock, country, rockabilly, jazz. All good books and this Kolb book is one of my favorites. Hal Leonard books in general have not disappointed me. I also have found the Amazon reviews of books by customers have been pretty good. I bought this book because of the reviews here on Amazon.
